I had the Johnny Cash burger (Cajun burger with Cajun mayo). Really good flavor, large half pound burger. Included with burger was really good crinkle fries. My friends had a patty melt and a bacon bbq burger. Both thought the food was really good. I am definitely going back. If you're in a hurry this might not be your place.

Went in for lunch this afternoon with my girlfriend. We sat down and the table had glasses and used napkins on it from the last customers. The waitress was pretty good except that she had so much to do we rarely saw her. I ordered the philly burger on sourdough with the crinkle fries. I asked if it was possible to get shredded cheese on the fries and was told it would be $3.00 more... $3.00!! I passed but the food was still delicious which is one of the few things that will make me come back.

Stopped in today and enjoyed probably the best buffalo chicken wrap I've had in a long time. Cute bar too. The bartender was super nice and there are tons of TV's. All in all a great experience. I'll definitely come back.

The last time I was here it was 'MAC' and Ernie's.... Now it's Carl and Ernies. Kinda like Siskel and Ebert--Ebert may be gone, but the quality remains with Ropert. Same to be said with Carl. This place is still a perfect neighboring watering hall on HWY 1. It's my dad's local stomping grounds, and we grabbed a drink there as I got back in town. Cheap drinks, good specials and quality service. A Crown Royal poured to the brim for $5.50--I'll take 12, it's ok I'm driving.... And the food--It's gourmet bar food. The beer battered mozzarella sticks will keep me coming back alone. Served with the good ranch and plenty of TV's to get your sports fix on! Mac and Ernie's, Carl and Ernies, Bert ad Ernies. As long as Ernie is there I'll be back!

Having just moved back to Iowa, I have been trying as many local places as I can. Carl & Earnie's is my new favorite. Great burgers, great fries, great atmosphere.

In town for business around Iowa City, of course I was looking for good grub and a place to chill out after work. Since part of the name here is "Good Time Pub and Grub" then this place had to be a no-brainer, right? I had been told their good food items were their burgers and their pizza. Lucky for me, both were on special when I stopped by. The couple next to me were having the pizza and it looked awesome so I went with that. It was a great choice, the pizza was awesome! Very thin, cripsy crust just as I like it. And plenty of toppings to keep it tasty without it being too much to make it overwhelming. The pizza was a hit with me, I ate the whole thing. They also have a great selection of beers on tap to enjoy with your eats. Atmosphere wise, it's very comfortable and welcoming, much like a Cheers type place. I'd say it would be a great place to meet up with friends and chill out. Service was good and attentive, as I sat at the bar being solo. There are many booths and tables as well for groups. Great bar/pub atmosphere. Bottom line: I agree with the "Good Time Pub and Grub" in their name, great atmosphere and food. I'd say give these guys a try for hanging out for a few or getting some good eats.

Went there for the specials on wings like we have before. The rude waitress just throws our napkins and silverware on the table. She then gets our waters and slams them on the table and says "need a menu?" We want the wings and she says you have to order a drink. Which last time we were there we got told you can get the wings without an order of a drink. So the people who work there need to get on the same page. My friend then orders 2 dozen wings and she says we had to order a drink per dozen. We then ask for a manager which wasn't present but the then got some girl which was just as rude. We left and I don't plan on going back. The wings were good when I went other times but not worth it because of the awful staff.

from california and can never get an italian beef anywhere so i was more then quick to order the "al pacino" even though going in i planned on getting a rueben. It hit the spot great and the coleslaw was great. Little bit steep for a sandwich, but taste made it worth it.

I love this bar!!! Great food and amazing drinks! Some of the best lunch and dinner specials around. It feels like a home town bar in the heart of Iowa City. Great place to also watch sports! Regular Customer!
